Think lifestyle change, not short-term diet.
It is a proven fact that ‘permanent’ weight loss is not achieved with a “quick-fix” diet.  Alternatively it is suggested you think of weight loss as a ‘permanent lifestyle change’; a commitment to your health. Sure many of the fad and popular diets may help you jump start your weight loss but a permanent change in both your food choices and lifestyle are what will work for the long term.

Set ‘realistic’ mini goals to keep motivated.
When you set mini-realistic goals they are achievable and in turn keep you motivated.  Motivation is a sure way to help you reach the next goal and the next making reaching your ideal weight attainable and sustainable.  If temptation or frustration set in it’s best to concentrate on the benefits you’ll reap when you become a leaner, healthier version of you.

Slow and steady
This is a sure fire way to win your battle with your weight for the long term.  Set your goal to lose 1-2 pounds per week.  Although some programs can have you lose weight faster, it can sometimes leave you feeling sluggish, slow-moving and not feeling well.  Often quick weight loss is mostly water and muscle weight and not the fat you want to lose…and quick off generally leads to quick back on + a few extra pounds.

Track your progress to increase your enthusiasm. 
Make use of tools to track your progress by keeping track of what you eat, your exercise, calories in and out.  Weigh yourself on a regular basis* keep track of the pounds and inches you lose (especially from your waist).  When you keep track of your efforts the results are there for you in black and white which in turn will help keep you highly motivated.
